Biography: Graduated from Salisbury University, MD with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and minors in Psychology and Physical Education. Completed my Masters of Education in Science Education at the University of Central Florida. Currently teaching IB Biology Higher Level 11th and 12th grade, AP Biology and Honors Biology.



Joelle Heath

Ms. Heath grew up in Pennsylvania and attended college at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA. After graduating, she moved to sunny Florida. Joining the Cypress Creek family in 2001 has led to many wonderful opportunities to work with great students and a terrific faculty.


Elizabeth Scanlon

Area of Certification: English Language Arts- Adolescent and Young Adult

Biography: Beth Scanlon works as a literacy coach at Cypress Creek High School in Orlando, Florida. She has worked at Cypress Creek since 2005 and as an educator in Orange County Public Schools since 1993. Her teaching experiences range from teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Oak Ridge High School to teaching English and reading at Timber Creek High School and Cypress Creek High School. She describes herself as a Knighted-Gator. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and her master’s degree in English education from the University of Florida and her doctorate from the University of Central Florida. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and National Writing Project teacher-consultant. She was recognized as a Just Read Florida Literacy Leader state finalist and Orange County Public Schools High School Reading Coach of the Year in 2011. She was recognized as Florida's Secondary Reading Council's Reading Teacher of the Year in 2010. 

During her spare time she teaches courses to undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Education and Human Performance at the University of Central Florida and serves as a Graduate Faculty Scholar. She also serves on the Amelia Elizabeth Walden Committee for the Assembly of Literature for Adolescents where she is part of a team that chooses the young adult book of the year. She is the co-founder and organizer for edCamp Orange and blogs as part of the national Slice of Life Story Challenge. In her free time she likes to enjoy the Florida outdoors and spend time with her family.

As literacy coach, she is responsible for working with teachers and students. She coordinates Family Literacy Night, Celebrate Literacy week, and the FSA reading and writing workshops. She works primarily with reading and English teachers as well as the students who are in reading classes.


Eileen Tobin

Area of certification: Social Science

Biography: Eileen Tobin graduated from Rollins College with a major in political science and a minor in business. She received her master’s degree in education from the University of Central Florida. She has been teaching at Cypress Creek since 1994. Currently, she teaches AP Human Geography and coaches cross country, basketball and track.
