ESOL Parent Leadership Council

We are excited as our school year begins. Our ELL/ESOL Department is located in the Guidance Department Area. Please feel free to stop in to visit and meet our ELL/ESOL Personnel. Mrs. Jessica Morales is our Compliance Specialist.

At Cypress Creek High School, we strive to identify ways to help our ELL/ESOL students learn English, as well as maintain learning in all the content area classes in order to prepare them for graduation. Students are enrolled in the appropriate grade level courses of Language Arts/ESOL, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Computer Literacy. Our ELL/ESOL teachers provide varied strategies learn and use the new language, as well as the necessary skills to read and write in all areas that students will use on the End of Course (EOC) tests. Our teachers use various strategies to teach, evaluate and assess our ELL students as they learn their new language. We provide additional assistance with our paraprofessionals that work with the students in the classrooms and provide each student a bilingual dictionary for classroom and testing uses.

Identification

New students complete a Home Language Survey (HLS) at the time they register in the district. When there is a “Yes” on any of the HLS questions, further assessment is done to determine eligibility for the ESOL program.

Students are selected and placed in the ESOL Program as a result of a process beginning with the HLS. An assessment model was developed for evaluating and placing all potentially ELL student. The test used for listening comprehension and speaking skills is approved by the Florida Department of Education. The reading and writing test covers a wide range of skills and is also approved by the Florida Department of Education.

Post Reclassification
